LEROY - "I
actually like it when it is wet out," Ian Humphrey said after Friday's
matchup against Avon, and did it ever show. After stopping the Braves on their first possession it was time for LeRoy power football as the Knights marched downfield behind the blocking of the offensive line and the running of FB Brady Bonacquisti. The junior carried the ball 11 times and collected 68 yards on the opening drive. Bonacquisti capped off the drive with a 1-yard TD plunge. The next LeRoy possession started with great field position as the Knights stopped Avon short on a 4th-and-2. From there, LeRoy never looked back as the hosts drove 56 yards on only 5 plays behind the running of Bennetti and Humphrey. Bennetti ran the ball twice for 29 yards and Humphrey had 22 yards on the drive. The senior quarterback was also 1-for-1 on the drive for 5 yards as he hit Chad Condidorio on a short screen pass. Bennetti punched it into the end zone from the 8-yard line for a 12-0 lead. "I thought tonight was probably one of the better offensive performances up front. These kids got off the ball tonight and did a great job," LeRoy coach Brian Moran said. Avon's next
possession was cut short as Bennetti seemingly could do no wrong. Bennetti
dropped back into his safety position and came up to make a great play
on a ball for an interception. He was able to return it into Avon territory
to set up the Knights with terrific field position. |

As much as he likes to play defense, it was LeRoy's turn for some offense yet again. From the
17-yard line it was the Ian Humphrey show. Three straight carries and
it was into the end zone for the junior running back. Travis Fenstermaker
would add the extra point to put the Knights ahead 19-0. On LeRoy's first possession of the second half the Knights drove the field and Bennetti hit Justin Becker for a 20-yard TD strike. That would give the Oatkan Knights their final tally, and put them up 40-0. The score would stay as such until the fourth quarter as the Braves blocked a punt and gave themselves some good field position for the first time in the game. Avon's lone score came on a 21-yard TD pass from Max Barrett to Robert Csapo. "I thought we played really well tonight. The last couple weeks we talked about focusing and getting ourselves better, and tonight I thought we played very well on both sides of the ball," Moran said. The offensive numbers for the Knights were led by the triple-threat backfield of Bennetti, Bonacquisti, and Humphrey. Bennetti collected 95 yards with a score on 7 carries, and also went for 68 yards and a TD through the air. Bonacquisti racked up 75 yards on 12 carries and also added a TD. Humphrey, crossed the goal line 3 times on the night, while adding 80 yards on 12 carries. Bonacquisti and Kory Cosimeno each had 7 tackles to the lead the LeRoy defense. |
