Canisteo - The Oatkan Knights, fueled by a opening kickoff TD return of 81 yards by junior speedster Tyrone Wyckoff, manhandled a very young Canisteo-Greenwood Redskins squad on the Canisteo gridiron on a steamy day near the famous "living sign" of Canisteo. The Knights raced to 36-0 lead in just one quarter of play as QB Travis Fenstermaker led the talented Knights to their 4th victory in as many games with a solid throwing and running day. At halftime, the Knights' defense had allowed zero net yards of offense to the youthful hometown squad (25 of the 29 C-G players are underclassmen). It took but
11 seconds for Tyrone Wyckoff to snag the opening kickoff, and freed up
by a solid block by running-mate Ian Humphrey, dash untouched to the Canisteo
end zone via a Mike Humphrey escort. 7-0 Knights after the Fenstermaker
kick for PAT. The LeRoy defense once more swarmed over the C-G offense forcing a Tango result (1-2-3-kick) that led to a drive start at the C-G 33. The Knights' push off the ball was outstanding and lead to their 4th TD of the quarter as Bonacquisti lined up at HB and followed FULLback Marcus "Big Cat" Epps into the end zone from 5 yards out. Mike Humphrey tossed the 2-pt PAT pass to all-purpose John Scheuing to stretch the LR lead to 28 with just under 2.5 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter. Though C-G started at their 38-yard line after a nice return, the Knights' D led by Kory Cosimeno, Chuck Brandes, and Marcus Epps forced a 3rd down pass that was picked off by Wyckoff in the flats. Two runs of 19 and 28 by Ian Humphrey and Travis Fenstermaker were all that were required for the Knights to travel the necessary 47 yards to paydirt and a 36-0 lead after a PAT reception by Epps. After one quarter of play, Ian Humphrey had already registered 101 yards on just 8 carries. |

The 2nd quarter
did not start well for the Redskins as DB Mike Humphrey streaked into
the C-G backfield, caused a fumble with a huge hit, all the while somersaulting
forward and managing to pounce on the loose ball he had caused. The Knights'
O continued to dominate with some nominal substitution now occurring.
A field goal attempt was blocked by a very fine defensive effort by the
Redskins' D. The Knights
and Redskins exchanged possessions of the pigskin after neither offense
could get into gear with the sun beating down. A fine punt return by Mike
Humphrey got the Knights into position for another possible score before
the half. With 20 seconds remaining, the Knights did just that as Fenstermaker
ran around right end and followed some strong blocks to score from 23
yards out. Another Mike Humphrey to John Scheuing pass added the PAT score.
A mishandled kickoff led to yet another possession for the Knights with
seconds remaining until intermission. Brady Bonacquisti scored on an 8-yard
pass from Fenstermaker as the siren sounded the end of the 1st half. A
Marcus Epps run for PAT put the score at 52-7. Next up, the Knights return Friday evening to the friendly confines of Hartwood Park for a Homecoming showdown with the 3-1 Avon Braves. |
