Wellsville - The Knights traveled down Route 19 and totally dominated the host Wellsville Lions, posting a 77-8 win. The Knights amassed 502 yards of total offense with Andrew Alexander rushing for 164 and 4 touchdowns. Reserve running back Anthony Macaluso hit the century mark with an even 100 yards and a score. Bruising fullback Jon "Hippo" Casper struck paydirt twice on 4 and 2 yard blasts, while Mike Humphrey snagged 2 Travis Fenstermaker passes of 70 and 41 yards for a pair of TDs. Younger brother Quentin Humphrey caught a 29-yarder TD and returned an interception 31 yards for another 6 points. "Q" also converted 2 PAT kicks for good measure. The Knights' first possession was all Alexander as he carried 7 times for 65 yards. Andrew finished off the scoring march with a 3-yard score. Travis Fenstermaker ran the ball in for the 2-point conversion and the 8-0 lead. The defense forced a second 3-and-out to give the Knights a second drive start at their own 48-yard line. The ensuing drive stalled and Fenstermaker booted a 25-yard field goal to put the Knights up 11-0. Following the kick-off, Fenstermaker recovered a Lions' fumble at the Wellsville 35. Two plays later Travis hit Quentin Humphrey with a 29-yard scoring pass. Fenstermaker hit senior TE Brian Calmes for the 2-point conversion to push the lead to 19 with only 8 minutes played. Jordan "Haystack" Casper and coach Andy Paladino's defense forced yet another Wellsville punt on the Lions' 3rd offensive possession. The Knights' offense marched 57 yards on just 5 plays with Alexander earning his 2nd score of the contest on a nifty 15-yard dash. The score read 26-0 with 57 ticks left in the opening quarter after Fenstermaker added the PAT kick. Wellsville's next drive stalled at the LeRoy 44 after a failed 4th-and-1 attempt. Tyrone Wyckoff's 17-yard scamper set up an Alexander 36-yard TD run to make it 32-0 with 9:59 left until intermission. The Lions converted on a 4th-and-1 for their first "first down" of the half on their next drive, but a Jordan Casper 7-yard tackle for loss forced another Wellsville punt. The LeRoy offense took over at the Lions' 44 after a nice 22-yard punt return by Mike Humphrey. It took just 2 minutes for the next touchdown, set up beautifully by a 42-yard dash by the Knights' Anthony Macaluso. Jon Casper's 2-yard burst made it 38-zip Knights with 5:17 to go until halftime. Casper shortly afterwards rambled for 21 yards to set up his second TD of the evening from 7 yards out. Quentin Humphrey split the uprights to give the Knights a commanding 45-0 lead at the half. The visiting Knights scored just 1:03 into the second half as Fenstermaker hit Mike Humphrey on a short screen that wound up in the end zone to make it 51-0. The next Wellsville drive ended as Alexander picked off a Bryan Depew pass. Alexander scored his 4th TD from 4 yards out and Quentin Humphrey again added the PAT kick. 58-0 with only 3 minutes off the 3rd quarter clock. "Q" Humphrey's 31-yard return of an interception and Anthony Macaluso's 55-yard TD run pushed the Knights final scoring tally to 77. The Lions avoided the shutout prior to Macaluso's late TD when QB Depew hit Alex Hewlett on a 70-yard scoring strike. The 2-point PAT was successful and the final read 77-8 Knights. The Knights (3-0 and ranked #5 among New York Class C schools) return to Hartwood Park for a homecoming battle with a young Canisteo-Greenwood Redskins squad on Friday, September 26th @ 7:30 PM. |
