LEROY
- The Knights continued their march toward a possible sectional crown
with a most convincing 69-13 win over the 8th-seeded South Seneca/Romulus
Falcons in a Class C quarterfinal game at Hartwood Park. LeRoy rolled
up 557 yards of total offense, 416 rushing and 141 through the air.
A total of 10 players in all carried the pigskin for the Knights. Andrew
Alexander rushed for 86 yards on just 6 attempts, while notching 2 TDs.
Tyrone Wyckoff dashed for 75 yards and 2 scores, while Mike Humphrey,
Jon Casper, and Anthony Macaluso each netted 56 yards on the ground.
QB Travis Fenstermaker was stellar, connecting on 5 of 8 pass attempts
for 103 yards and 2 TDs. Quentin Humphrey completed both of his pass
attempts for 38 yards.
The Knights struck quickly after forcing a Falcon punt as Alexander raced 44 yards on the first play from scrimmage for a 7-0 Knights lead just 1:13 into the contest. Midway in the quarter Alexander scored again, this time on a 20-yard scamper to push the margin to 14-0 in favor of the host Knights. South Seneca/Romulus cut the lead in half as they moved 68 yards with RB Justin Pinnette's 45 yard TD burst finishing off the drive. Dave Barnick's PAT kick cut the lead in half to 14-7. What followed was an absolute avalanche of LeRoy offensive power. The Knights entered the game as the 3rd highest per game scoring team among all high schools in the state. Jon Casper bolted 50 yards off the right side just 44 seconds after the SS-R TD. TDs that followed included Travis Fenstermaker's 38-yard strike to Mike Humphrey, Anthony Macaluso's one yard burst, Quentin Humphrey's 9-yard TD reception from Fenstermaker, Tyrone Wyckoff's 7-yard blast, and Mike Humphrey's human highlight reel 35-yard ankle breaking dash to make it LeRoy 55, South Seneca 7 at the half. The defense led by Joe Carubia, Jon Casper, and John Scheuing held the Falcons to just 2 first downs and 71 total yards in the first half. LeRoy scored 4 minutes into the 2nd half when Tyrone Wyckoff earned his 2nd TD of the evening after darting 21 yards through the SS-R defense. The Falcons answered when QB John Horrocks hit Justin Pinnette with a 77-yard screen pass to make the score 63-13 Knights. Donnie Pangrazio capped the scoring for LeRoy with a one yard plunge to make the final 69-13. Coach Andrew Paladino's defense, other than the 2 TDs, allowed only 42 yards and while holding the Falcons to just 5 total first downs. LeRoy, 8-0 on the year and ranked 3rd in the state among Class C schools, play the 4th-seeded Letchworth Indians in the first of 2 semifinal clashes to be played this Saturday, November 1st at 1 PM at Aquinas Institute. The second half of the semi doubleheader pits 2nd-seeded Oakfield-Alabama (8-0) against familiar Genesee Region rival and 3rd-seeded Pembroke (7-1) at 4 PM. All of the teams left in Class C are talented and tough - the title is definitely up for grabs. |
