| DANSVILLE
-- The Oatkan Knights are winless no more.
Visiting Le Roy put together a 17-play, eight-minute drive in the final quarter, scoring with 1:38 remaining to defeat Dansville 29-28 in Livingston Conference football action Friday. Twice the Knights converted on 4th down plays to keep the game winning drive alive. The second was an incredible 10-yard dash by LeRoy QB Quentin Humphrey who literally leaped over several Dansville defenders to barely pick up a crucial first down on a fourth-and-10 with three minutes left to play. Humphrey finished with 22 yards on four carries, including the final winning one-yard TD boost. LR head coach Brian Moran called timeout and decided to eschew a possible game-tying PAT kick to opt for a potential game winning PAT run worth 2 points. Junior RB Rick Henry converted the two-point conversion run to lift the Knights (1-2). Henry led the team with 141 yards on 25 carries and one TD. On the season Henry has garnered 328 yards rushing against some very strong LCAA D1 defenses. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead as Jordan VanDunk caught a 24-yard TD pass from fireballer QB Garrett Hoag. Tim Rauber made the PAT, to give Dansville a 7-0 lead which the Mustangs held through the first quarter of play. The Knights knotted the contest at 7 when FB Jon Casper crashed over the goal line at the 11:20 mark of the second quarter. Austin Steinbrenner, who went 3-for-3 on extra-point kicks, made the PAT. Dansville rallied back with a good balance of passing and rushing, scoring twice to take a 21-7 halftime lead. The Dansville scores were both made on the ground, a 1-yard score by RB Tim Rauber and a 61-yard dash by Phil Longo with just over 2 minutes remaining in the first half. The Knights came out determined in the second half and plowed their way through the Dansville defense with the power running of Casper and Henry. Casper's 2-yard burst 4.5 minutes into the 3rd quarter pumped up the Knights as they trailed by just one TD, 21-14. The LR defense stepped up nicely with newcomer Jevon Johnson registering an inspiring tackle for loss and Casper intercepting Dansville QB Hoag. Minutes later, a Henry 37-yard TD gallop and Steinbrenner PAT tied the game up at 21 each. Dansville
answered right back with a very nice scoring drive capped off by Phil
Longo's 2-yard TD up the gut. Prior to Longo's score, Dansville reserve
QB Pat McMullin was called into the contest to replace Hoag who was
felled by cramps. WR Sam Diaz caught a superb pass from McMullin near
the LR goal line to keep the scoring drive alive.
1) LR only
had three possessions in the second half, scoring on all of them. |
