Varsity Football 2009 - Dansville vs. LeRoy II



Huge goal line stands lift Knights to 30-26 thriller over Dansville Knights storm back from 12-point halftime deficit to end season on back-to-back wins. Quentin Humphrey is named as LeRoy's game MVP while Brandon Smith sparks the LeRoy squad with high energy play while being named winner of the LeRoy sportsmanship award.

LEROY - Outstanding late game defense helped host LeRoy get the thrilling 30-26 victory over Dansville last Friday in the Connor and Ferris Pool 5 championship game at LeRoy's Hartwood Park. LeRoy made two goal line stands late in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. Dansville scored early and often against the Knights, registering 19 points in the 1st quarter. Tim Rauber scored all 3 of the 1st quarter TDs for Dansville on runs of 2, 14, and 43 yards. Dansville led 26-14 at the half as QB Garrett Hoag hit wideout Jordan VanDunk with a 9-yard scoring strike. Rauber coverted the PAT. LeRoy wouldn't go down without a fight, managing to come back and score twice in the 3rd quarter. Jevon Jackson and Tyler Fenstermaker made key plays late in the 4th quarter that would ultimately give the host Oatkan Knights the victory. On 4th-and-goal, Johnson tackled Hoag at the one to cause a change of possession on downs for the Knights. Later in the 4th, Fenstermaker intercepted a pass in the end zone on another 4th down play, giving the ball back to LeRoy. Rick Henry rushed for 120 yards on 21 carries, while Jon Casper contributed 69 yards rushing on 14 carries for the Knights. Quentin Humphrey lead all LR tacklers with 9 stops while upcoming junior Austin Steinbrenner netted 5 stops. Anthony Macaluso, Jevon Johnson, and Eric Stella split a dozen tackles between them evenly. Dansville's Rauber ended the contest with 89 yards rushing, and Sammy Diaz contributed 91 yards on 15 rushes. Hoag completed 13 of 24 passes for 212 yards.
