LIVONIA
- Le Roy played lights-out. And Livonia was left in the dark. Led by
an aggressive interior line, on both sides of the ball, visiting Le
Roy jumped out to a two touchdown lead and held on for the 16-8 victory
over Livonia last Friday night in a game that was played partially in
the dark. |

| The
second half saw Livonia come out with a little more life as Jake Fox took
the first carry after the break for 23 yards, giving the Bulldogs a first
down near midfield. But three plays led to just six yards forcing yet
another Livonia punt that only went to the Le Roy 35. After back-to-back possessions with nothing, Livonia would finally hit the scoreboard as a beautiful double reverse pass from Wyatt Strubel to Mike Knapp set up a 10-yard TD run by Fox that made it 16-6 with nine seconds left in the third. The Bulldogs would go for the deuce as QB Steven DiBatista's toss to the right side would find Diener who scrambled in for the PAT cutting the deficit to 16-8. Livonia would get the football back with just under six minutes left in the game when they apparently scored on a 76-yard TD pass from DiBatista to Knapp, but the TD would come all the way back because the Bulldogs did not have enough men on the line of scrimmage. Two plays later, junior Andy Lowe would come up big for the Knights as he picked off a DiBatista pass and returned it to the Bulldogs' eight. Livonia would stop Le Roy on three straight runs before Steinbrenner would come in to try a 30-yard field goal that would have put the game on ice. He missed left. With 1:48 left in the game, Lowe would come up big again as DiBatista's floater down the left sideline would get picked off by Lowe again, sealing the game for the Knights. "I just went up there and got 'em," said Lowe, about both fourth quarter INT's. "I just did my job." The victory was sweet redemption for Lowe and the Knights who were routed by Livonia at Hartwood Park in the 2009 season opener, snapping the Knights' 43-game home winning streak. For Lowe, who separated his shoulder in that opener last year and missed the entire season, he was just happy to contribute. "This is a great win for us, especially with what happened last year," said Lowe. It was also sweet for Le Roy coach Brian Moran, a graduate of Livonia High School. "This is one of the biggest wins of my 22-year coaching career," said coach Moran. "It's always good to come home and get a 'W'. This is a big win that means a lot to our team and our program. I'm really proud of this team and very happy with the way we played. I thought both of our sophomore tailbacks ran very hard." The offensive stats were almost alarming as Le Roy kept the ball the majority of the game and finished with 292 yards on 61 carries. Hogle led Le Roy with 98 yards on 22 carries while Fenstermaker tacked on 87 yards on 11 carries. Henry added 55 yards on 12 carries and Johnson ran for 52 yards on 14 tries. "The offensive line did a great job of opening up some nice holes and all I had to do was make some second-level cuts," said Hogle. "Their offensive line controlled the game - that's the bottom line," said Livonia coach Steve Girolmo. Livonia's potent rushing attack was stymied for most the night as the Bulldogs were held to just 116 yards on 23 carries. The Le Roy defense was led by Steinbrenner with eight tackles, Brad Morgan with 5, and Hogle, Mark Kelso, Cal Whiting and Marcus Mistersaro with four stops each. |
