WARSAW
- The Oatkan Knights traveled to Warsaw this past Friday to play the
improved Warsaw Tigers on their even more improved turf field. The host
Tigers were up to the challenge of the Knights and played a very inspired
first half, trailing by just 2 scores at intermission. The second half
saw the visiting Knights tack on 34 points to register a convincing
48-0 final after gaining 547 yards of total offense. The second half saw more fine rushing by the Knights as well as excellent defense. Sophomore speedster Dylan Johnson and powerful senior fullback Rick Henry ran past the Warsaw defense accounting for the 5 LeRoy TDs garnered in the 2nd half. Johnson, who rushed for a game and career high 180 yards on just 13 carries, scored on runs of 52, 7, and 42 yards while averaging a stupendous 14 yards/carry during the contest. Henry bulled his way over and around the Tigers to snag 2 TD runs of 4 yards each while picking up 109 yards on 11 carries. McQuillen rested much of the 2nd half and finished the evening with 163 yards to push his team leading season rush total to 612 yards in just 4 games. Tim Wortman snagged 51 yards on just 4 carries and was denied a late game TD due to a penalty. |

The LeRoy
offensive and defensive lines gelled as the game advanced. The O-line
paved the way for the 533 yards of rushing and 24 first downs. The defense
was stellar at all positions as Warsaw had just 5 total first downs,
and 77 yards of total offense, 47 on the ground while limiting the Tiger
passing game to 30 yards on 2 completions from 12 passing attempts.
Soph Marcus Mistersaro had 9 tackles and a sack, while fellow soph Zach
Hogle had 8 stops and a sack. Senior Cal Whiting had 8 tackles as well,
including 2.5 for losses. Another rising sophomore star, Archie Cappotelli,
had a very nice game with 7 tackles. All-purpose Mark Kelso was solid
as usual on both sides of the ball and collected a fumble to boot. |
