LE ROY -- Three scores in six minutes quickly put Caledonia-Mumford and Le Roy's longtime rivalry to bed as the visiting Red raiders shut out Le Roy 42-0 Friday night in the 77th meeting of the two Livingston Conference storied programs.

Leading 16-0 at halftime, Cal-Mum (5-1) broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring 21 points in a 5 1/2-minute span in a game that saw six first half turnovers, four by Caledonia-Mumford.

"They showed us a different front than we were used to (in the first half), so we just had to settle down. We were all a little fuzzy, a little confused," said Cal-Mum defender Dan Whiteside. "In the second half, we had our heads clear, we knew what we were going to do, and we just executed."

Whiteside led the Raiders defensively, finishing with two fumble recoveries, an interception and eight tackles as Cal-Mum pitches its second straight shutout. Colin Callan added eight tackles and Matt Hartford, the team's starting quarterback, added an interception.

"We have eight kids that play both ways, so we have athletes on both sides of the ball," said Cal-Mum coach Mike Monacelli. "The goose eggs looks good, but these are the same kids that are scoring on the other side."

Cal-Mum struck first, four minutes into the game as Jon Cappotelli scored on a 4-yard run. Hartford ran in the two-point conversion. The score was set up by a big 31-yard breakout run by Trevor Haut. The ball would exchange hands several times as the teams combined for five turnovers -- three Cal-Mum fumbles and two Le Roy interceptions -- over the next 18 1/2 minutes before Cal-Mum's Christian Hallett would score on a 41-yard bootleg run with 1:30 to go in the first half.

With the wind against their backs in the second half, the Red Raiders took advantage, airing the ball out. Hartford threw for 152 yards, going 3-for-3. Lauffer was his No. 1 target, as he finished with two catches -- both for touchdowns -- and 117 yards.

"In a Class D school, you're lucky to have the kids be able to do one thing well," said Monacelli. "We can do a couple things well. We can run the ball, but we can also throw it. We are fortunate to have both in the same year."

Lauffer also rushed for 52 yards on nine touches. Jon Cappotelli balanced the aerial attack, rushing for 93 yards on 18 carries. He also had two two-point conversion runs.

After back-to-back Hartford-to-Lauffer TD receptions a minute apart in the third quarter, Haut capped the scoring in the quarter with a 8-yard run.

Soloman Gominiak rounded out Cal-Mum's scoring with a late touchdown, running it in from six yards out in the fourth quarter. Cal-Mum finished with 442 total offensive yards -- 290 on the ground -- while holding Le Roy to 109 total offensive yards.

The 'W' completes regular season play for the Red Raiders, who own the No. 1 seed in the Class DD sectional tournament. They'll face Perry for the second time this year in the first round of the post-season next week.

Le Roy (3-3) was missing several key players in the matchup after four starting offensive linemen were suspended from the game after getting ejected for fighting in last week's blowout win over Warsaw. They also were without junior running back Tommy McQuillen, who was injured.

Tyler Fenstermaker led the Oatkan Knights with 28 yards on eight rushes. Defensively, Marcus Mistersaro recorded 13 tackles and Archie Cappotelli added 10 tackles. Dylan Johnson had two fumble recoveries for the Knights, which finish the regular season next week on the road at Wayland-Cohocton.
