- Senior tailback Chris Nevinger eclipsed the 4,000-yard rushing mark
for his high school career Friday night in host Letchworth's 42-7 triumph
over LeRoy in LCAA football action.
Nevinger ran for 197 yards on 24 carries and scored twice in the first
half for the Indians, who jumped out to a 25-0 lead. He now has 4,173
yards rushing during his four years as a varsity player.
Senior QB Ryan Owens rushed four times for 63 yards, including a 38-yard
sweep into the end zone in the first quarter, and completed six of 10
passes for 86 yards and a touchdown to WR Chris Coniglio.
Fullback Clif Bacon, another senior, broke off two long TD runs - a
63-yarder up the middle to open the scoring and a 32-yarder in the third
quarter to complete the scoring.
Letchworth coach Tim McMullen said he was pleased with his team's effort
on both sides of the ball.
"We executed well, playing solid team defense against a potentially
tough offense," McMullen said. "Nevinger and Bacon were big,
and Owens was a dual purpose weapon, both rushing and passing."
Letchworth held LeRoy's star halfback Tommy McQuillen in check for most
of the game, limiting him to 111 yards on 20 carries. McQuillen scored
on a 12-yard run late in the second quarter.
On defense, Bacon and Jake Remington were each in on 9 tackles and Austin
Bowles had 6 tackles.
For LeRoy, QB Andy Lowe did well, completing 8 of 19 pass attempts with
3 receptions being registered by both Marcus Mistersaro (45 yards) and
Kylan Carter (43 yards). Tommy Kelso and Dylan Johnson were tough on
defense for the Knights with 10 and 9 tackles respectively.
