Most football players would be satisfied rushing for 300 yards in a game just once in their career. Ian Humphrey decided to go for two such games. In breaking his personal record set earlier in the season against Bath, Ian rushed for 320 yards and scored three touchdowns. These yards would come against a tough HF-L defense as LeRoy posted their eighth victory of the season without a loss, 35-9. This game was a lot closer than the score indicates as the Knights wore down the Cougar defense, putting up 22 points in the 4th quarter.

Taking the opening kickoff, the Knights faced a 4th-and-1 from their 40. Travis Fenstermaker hit Kory Cosimeno in the flats for 7 yards to move the chains. Later in the drive, HF-L stops Ian Humphrey for no gain on 4th down, stopping the LR drive.

Three plays later, Jamie Storms recovers an HF-L fumble, giving the Jr. Knights excellent field position at their 45. Immediately, Ian Humhprey picks up 11 on 1st down. On 2nd-and-10, Mike Humphrey makes one of his many spectacular grabs of the night. Outleaping his opponent, Mike hauls in the 15 yarder from Fenstermaker. Not to be outdone by his brother, Ian runs for 17 yards down to the HF-L 12. Following 4 more touches by the Humphrey brothers, Greg Elmore bulls his way in from 1 yard out for the LeRoy TD. Fenstermaker kicks the PAT. LeRoy 7-0 with 52 ticks left in the 1st quarter.

The Knights' defense forces a 3-and-out. Mike Humphrey`s 18-yard punt return takes the ball into
Cougar territory at the 45. Reaching the 24, the Knights are stopped on a 4th-and-4 with another drive ending on downs.

On 3rd-and-2 for the host Cougars, LeRoy's Josh Risewick breaks up the pass forcing another 3-and-out. Mike Humphrey returns the Cougar punt for 22 yards to give the Knights good field position at the HF-L 44.

On 2nd down, Ian Humphrey runs 31 yards down to the HF-L 9 setting up a 1st-and-goal. Two Elmore runs moves the pigskin to the one. The Cougar defense makes another stand, stopping Fenstermaker and Humphrey on successive plays for no gain.

With 4:35 left in the 1st half, the Knights needed to force another HF-L 3-and-out to get the ball back in good field position, but the Cougar offense started to move the ball. Facing a 3rd-and-3 from the 8, the HF-L QB completes a 4-yard pass for the 1st down. Two more 1st downs out to the 44 and all of a sudden the Cougars were thinking about notching a score before the half, instead of running out the clock. Mike Humphrey and Kory Cosimeno break up passes before Elmore stops the runner for a 3-yard loss. Mike Humphrey fields the Cougar punt as the clock runs out, ending the 1st half.

Knowing the Cougars gained confidence with their last drive, LR looks to shut down the HF-L offense quickly and force a punt at the start of the 2nd half. Ian Humphrey drops the HF-L ball carrier for an 8-yard loss on 1st down. Jourdain Holly stops the pass completion for only one yard on 2nd down. Elmore shows his pass coverage ability, breaking up the pass on 3rd. Mike Humphrey fields his 4th punt for 19 yards, taking the ball to the HF-L 47.

After 2 Ian Humphrey runs gain 10 yards and a new set of downs, LR commits a holding penalty pushing the football back 10 yards. On 2nd-and-21 from the 48, Fenstermaker throws the ball long toward the HF-L end zone. The Cougar cornerback comes over and tips the pass, but incredible poise and concentration allows Mike Humphrey to catch the deflected ball for the LeRoy TD. The PAT fails, but LeRoy is up 13-0 just 3:38 into the 3rd quarter.

HF-L earns back-to-back runs of 34 and 20 to move the ball down to the LR 15-yard line. Josh Risewick made solo score-preventing tackles on both plays. Elmore, Ian Humphrey, Cosimeno, and Storms rise up, allowing only 3 yards on the next 3 Cougar plays. HF-L kicks a 29-yard FG to remove their goose egg from the scoreboard. It is now 13-3 in favor of the Knights.

HF-L fakes the onside kick, booting the ball deep to the LeRoy one. Ian Humphrey fields the ball, but is stopped at the 4. Ian promptly runs for 23 yards, giving the LeRoy offense some much needed breathing room. Needing a breather, Ian exits the game. Elmore and Cosimeno carry the ball the next 5 plays out to Cougar 47. Ian reenters the game and picks up 13 big yards. A holding penalty backs up the Knights 10 yards. Facing 3rd-and-14, Mike Humphrey makes another big play. Falling to the ground with great concentration, Mike catches a tipped pass for 31 yards to the HF-L 7. Ian runs it right in for the TD as well as the PAT to push the score to 21-3 in favor of the Knights. The scoring drive covered 96 yards in 13 plays.

On their next drive, HF-L reaches the Knights' 29 before Risewick breaks up the Cougar pass on 4th and 7. With 4:03 left in the game, LeRoy displays another smash-mouth drive. The offensive line provided excellent push as the visitors drove 71 yards in 9 plays for the score. Ian Humphrey carried 8 times for 65 yards, culminating in a 6-yard TD run. Fenstermaker kicks the PAT for a 28-3 LeRoy lead.

HF-L shows no quit and drives the ball in 5 plays for a TD. The HF-L QB is effective, going 3-of-4 for 59 yards. All 3 pass receptions went to the same wideout. The pass for the PAT fails. LR 28-9.

Ian Humphrey notched his final yardage total by virtue of his last score of the night, a beautiful 67-yard streak to the HF-L end zone. Fenstermaker added the PAT to make the final LeRoy 35, HF-L 9.

Just the remaining game with York on Thursday evening separates the Jr. Knights from a perfect 9-0 season. Be sure to brave the weather to watch the last 2005 game of this talented and entertaining squad.

The JV Knights hosted Avon on October 13th and it turned out to be a nice autumn evening in every sense of the word for the Jr. Knights.

Receiving the football first, LeRoy needed only 5 plays to travel 53 yards for the TD. Ian Humphrey rushes for 2 yards on the first play from scrimmage to reach 1,000 yards on the season. Four plays later Ian went into the end zone from the 3 to score. Travis Fenstermaker kicks the PAT, LR 7-0.

The Knights' defense forces a 3-and-out. On 4th down, Chris Andrews blocks the punt setting up the Knights 2nd drive start on the Avon 31. Following some fine blocking by the offensive line, Ian Humphrey completes the drive in just one play, darting in for the TD. Fenstermaker kicks the PAT, LR 14-0.

Avon picks up a 1st down on the next series converting a 4th-and-1. Greg Elmore stuffs the runner for a loss of 4 and Josh Risewick breaks up a pass attempt on 3rd down to force an Avon punt. Mike Humphrey fields the punt and returns the ball up the right sideline 31 yards to the Avon 37.

Due to penalties on the first 2 plays this drive lasted 3 plays as Ian Humphrey ran it in from 45 yards for the score. Fenstermaker kicks the PAT, LR 21-0.

Avon gets excellent field position at their 46 after a short kickoff. Facing 4th-and-4, the Braves' QB completes a 7-yarder to keep the chains moving. On 2nd down, Jamie Storms storms into the backfield and sacks the QB for an 8-yard loss. Kory Cosimeno nails the runner for a 2-yard loss, forcing the 3rd Avon punt.

The Knights start at their own 23 and Travis Fenstermaker leads a Tom Brady-like drive, going through the air exclusively. First Travis scrambles out of the pocket and hits Cosimeno for 19 yards. Next he throws a bubble screen to Mike Humphrey for 13. Two more completions to Mike Humphrey for 11 and 14 yards moves the ball down to the Avon 20. Travis then connects with Josh Risewick for a 20-yard TD pass. Fenstermaker is 5-for-5 on the drive for 77 yards in just 1:39. The PAT fails, LR 27-0.

The very first play of the Avon drive sees Cosimeno intercept the pass, returning it 12 yards to the Avon 23. Ian Humphrey picks up 5, then Greg Elmore drags defenders for 7 more. Ian takes it in from the 11 for the TD with 8:35 left in the 2nd, ending the day for the first-stringers. The PAT fails, LR 33-0.

Andrew Alexander ends the next Avon series intercepting the pass at midfield, but the Knights give the ball back on downs. Alexander intercepts a second pass to thwart the next series for the Braves. Starting on the Avon 45, LeRoy starts their final drive of the 1st half. Travis Hurd picks up 14 yards on 2 carries. Alexander picks up 6 and 10 down to the Avon 20. Two more carries by Hurd takes the ball to the 8. Enter John Scheuing. As time is winding down, Scheuing plows to the one and as time expires he plunges into the end zone. The PAT fails again and the half ends with the Jr. Knights ahead by a comfortable 39-0 margin.

Starting the 2nd half Avon returns the kickoff 82 yards for the touchdown. PAT fails, LR 39-6.

The 1st drive of the 2nd half for LeRoy started with 2 Hurd gains for 5. Alexander rips off 14 yards to move the chains. Alexander for 6, then Hurd gains 12 for another 1st down. Hurd for 3, Alexander picks up 12 for a first down to the Avon 15. Alexander for 1, then Steve Smith powers the ball to the 6, setting up a 3rd-and-1. Smith gains 2 for the apparent 1st down, but a holding call backs the ball to the 14. Facing 3rd-and-9, Mike Humphrey rolls to the right, hitting Brian Calmes at the 5, Brian shakes off the tackler, running in for the score. Fenstermaker kicks the PAT and the score reads LeRoy 46, Avon 6. The drive covered 11 plays and 62 yards.

Following an Avon 1st down, Jordan Casper stops the runner for no gain. Travis Pangrazio then sacks the QB for a loss of 12, setting up a long 3rd down. Mike Humphrey picks off the football, returning it 26 yards to the Avon 45.

Tyrone Wycoff becomes the featured LR runner in the subsequent series. Carrying the ball 4 straight times, Tyrone gains 8 yards, just short of a 1st down.

Now into the 4th quarter, Avon starts on their 37. On 3rd-and-5 Nathan Larson and Alex Cardenas string out the Avon runner for a one-yard loss. Facing 4th-and-6, the Avon receiver turns a 9-yard catch into a TD run for 59 yards. The pass for the PAT is successful, LR 46-14.

On LR`s next series Travis Hurd cuts to the left, speeding along for 64 yards before being caught at the one. Avon showing no quit, stops the Knights on 4 successive running plays, ending the LR drive at the one.

On the 1st play Avon completes a pass for 31 yards for some much needed breathing room. Larson and Wycoff chase down the Avon receiver or it would have been a much bigger gain. The Knights' defense then stiffens. Cardenas tips the pass at the line of scrimmage on 1st, Justin Pursel and Brock Pasquale drop the runner for a 2-yard loss on 2nd, Evan Calmes sacks the QB for a 4-yard loss on 3rd, and an incomplete pass on 4th down ends the final Avon series. LeRoy runs out the clock.

LeRoy improves to 7-0. Next up is a road trip to HF-L on October 20th. Last year HFL came into LeRoy undefeated and left with a loss. The Cougars will be looking for payback.
